Kopp Motorsports Claims Fifth Number One Qualifying Position of Season Along With Series Record
Burlington, ON – The conditions were just right this past Saturday, September 10th, for the We Install It Top Dragster team of Rick Kopp to finish the 2011 season on a high note, recording the quickest elapsed time in the history of the Quick 32 Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts along with the teams’ fifth number one qualifying position of the season.
After a stellar 6.06 elapsed time during the second qualifying session Saturday afternoon, the stage was set for the record setting blast down the quarter mile as all of the Quick 32 Series teams rolled out for their third and final qualifying attempt Saturday evening. With near perfect weather conditions and a well prepped racing surface the Kopp Motorsports team lined up beside current series record holder Paul Noakes in his Fiat bodied, supercharged entry. As the scoreboards flashed upon completion of the run, a new series ET record had officially been established at 6.04 seconds. “The car got progressively better all day and that 6.04 is a testament to how much power this Oddy’s powerplant is making.” said an excited Rick Kopp.
As an added bonus the We Install It sponsored team grabbed the number one qualifying position with that outstanding performance, its fifth of a possible six on the season in the Quick 32 Series. “We just missed having a perfect season when it comes to qualifying and I couldn’t be prouder of my whole team than I am right now for all the hard work and dedication they’ve shown.” stated Kopp.
Proving once again that great performances in qualifying don’t equal easy wins on race day, the team faced another disappointing round of eliminations, this time being bitten by mechanical gremlins that prevented the car from firing in the first round. “You can check and re-check everything and sometimes these things just happen when you’re dealing with so many moving parts at such high stress levels.” said Crew Chief Derek Jenne.
